Remote asset management utilising the Multenet GSM/GPRS/EDGE Router

EDGE RouterOrganisations use telemetry to monitor and control their remote assets. Traditionally a telemetry environment consists of one or a number of remote sites at which Field Devices are deployed, each site is linked to a highly resilient central management system known as the Master Station. Field Devices provide a wide variety of alarms and statistical data that can be used to remotely monitor and control plant and other equipment. The link between Master Station and Field Device can be provided by a variety of communication methods: PSTN telephone, satellite or GSM/GPRS/EDGE. In many cases, the Field Devices are installed in remote locations where the cost of land line installation is prohibitive.

In such environments GPRS/EDGE has become the industry standard for remote connectivity. This is due to the ease of installation, and the low cost of data transmission. This technique of remote asset management has been universally accepted as an essential business tool. It delivers the benefits of being able to reduce maintenance and operational costs, increase levels of monitoring and control of assets increasing the efficiency of existing resources.
