PLC’s and Fieldbus devices have historically operated in a proprietary protocol communication environment. Modbus is one such protocol. This limits the information available on the Fieldbus devices and also the ability to enter process instructions to the PLC only.
The Multenet solution
The Multenet EtherPAD communicates Modbus RTU or Modbus ASCII thereby providing an interface to the Ethernet network for Modbus PLC’s or Modbus Field devices.
This will facilitate the reprogramming of a PLC from a workstation on the Ethernet network and also to access data available on a Modbus device.
The EtherPAD Duo (PROD0201) and the EtherPAD Lite (PROD0200) can be deployed as a Modbus bridge in a master or slave role respectively to provide connectivity, with no modification needed to any of the hardware or software involved. Upgrades to the client sites can now be done from the enterprise network if necessary with the resultant savings in time and money.
