Record serial data

Other than serial data communicated to execute process control and automation, historical records of events occurring at the Field device level in the plant are not normally maintained. Should this be required it cannot be assumed that this can be achieved as a matter of course and can become a complex configuration challenge, depending on existing system resources in place.

The Multenet solution

A data logger connected to the Field device serial port will record and accumulate data in memory. This saved data can be date and time stamped for convenience. The logger as a network device can be accessed from anywhere on the LAN or WAN and data downloaded via FTP file transfer. . The logger is also capable of e-mailing the logged data to a pre-programmed internet e-mail address.

The data file is packaged in such a way as to be easily imported into any spreadsheet application such as Microsoft Excel.

The EtherPAD Duo (PROD0201) with its data logging application firmware is the appointed equipment to perform function. The amount of data saved is selectable by size or time and the logger is capable of initiating a connection to a remote host when the criteria are met or it will wait passively for an application to connect to it to download logged device data.
