Multenet has announced the launch of the Multenet Private APN. The new service lets customers securely and easily connect and manage remote devices as an extension of their corporate network – over the GSM cellular network.
Phil Blain, Multenet’s sales and marketing director, says the Multenet Private APN essentially gives any mobile device an entry point into an IP-based data network, such as a corporate VPN or the Internet.
Unlike the Public APNs provided by the mobile networks, Multenet’s Private APN allows fixed, static IP addresses to be assigned to field devices, allowing remote corporate connectivity without going via the public Internet. (The dynamic IP addresses assigned by Public APNs merely allow mobile devices to access the Internet.)
“Direct corporate connectivity is faster, more secure and more easily deployable than going indirectly via the Net,” Blain explains.
He adds that the release of the Multenet Private APN completes Multenet’s enterprise solution for remote mobile connectivity. Along with the Multenet range of cellular GSM routers, customers can now easily connect remote devices and access them directly.
Other uses for the Multenet Private APN solution include low-cost point-to-point solutions for telemetry and machine-to-machine applications.
